Inter defender Stefan de Vrij feels that he is back to playing his best football after he and his teammates saw off Roma 3-1 in Serie A.

Speaking to InterTV after the match, the Dutchman gave his immediate reaction to a match which saw the Nerazzurri take three points and another step forwards in their Scudetto pursuit.

Inter needed a top-class performance to get the better of a Giallorossi team who have not lost in Serie A in twelve matches, and that is what they produced.

Two first-half goals from the likes of Denzel Dumfries and Marcelo Brozovic and then a header from Lautaro Martinez early in the second half were enough to see off the Giallorossi.

De Vrij and his teammates were not quite able to see out the clean sheet as Henrikh Mkhitaryan scored a well-deserved consolation goal for the Giallorossi late on, but the three points are what’s important for the Nerazzurri.

He said of his resurgence in form that “I had an injury, now it’s my second match in four days, it was important to find consistency and rhythm. You always have to give it your all and I always have.”

De Vrij stated that “These are important points against a very strong team, they’re proving their quality, they have many quality players.”

“But we always looked comfortable on the pitch,”he continued, “we attacked with quality and took it home.”

“It’s important to think one match at a time,” he added, “not to look too far ahead and to continue playing with this spirit and desire to win.”

On the team’s hunger to keep winning, the Dutchman said that “I think you can also see it on the pitch, this is a team that realizes the opportunity it has.”

“We play with great spirit,”he added, “with a great desire to win and we must keep going like this.”
