Italian journalist Ivan Zazzaroni feels that Inter’s 1-0 win over Juventus earlier this month was a key moment in waking the Nerazzurri up.

Writing in his column in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, Zazzaroni gave the view that the triumph over the Bianconeri was the match that gave Inter back their confidence and sense of themselves.

Inter had been in sputtering form through much of February and March, and there were real doubts over whether they would be able to recover the kind of clarity and consistency that had characterized their eight-match winning run earlier in the campaign.

The performance in their virtually must-win match against the Bianconeri was far from convincing, but their defensive display was gritty and they secured the clean sheet and the win.

Those three points in difficult circumstances seem to have renewed the Nerazzurri’s conviction, and this has been visible in their four wins from four across all competitions since.

“They’re a curious team, Inter,” Zazzaroni writes, “yes they dropped off after the February 5 derby, in which they played better for seventy minutes but lost, and started to lose confidence and drop points.”

“To find themselves again and re-launch they needed an undeserved win over Juve,” he suggests, “a success that has given them back the confidence that they forgot they had, as well as the goals from Lautaro, their best striker.”
