Inter controlled the midfield battle with energy and precision against Roma in yesterday evening’s 3-1 win over Roma, and this owed in large parts to the quality of Marcelo Brozovic and Hakan Calhanoglu on the night.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who single the Nerazzurri duo out for their “midfield magic” to keep the team ticking over.

Brozovic has been one of the Nerazzurri’s outstanding players by far this season, and he produced another display up to his consistent standard, full of energy and hardly putting a foot wrong in or out of possession.

Moreover, after getting off the mark with his first goal of the Serie A season against Spezia last weekend, the 29-year-old immediately followed it up with an even better one to score the team’s second against the Giallorossi.

With goals like this in his arsenal, not forgetting that the Croat found the back of the net against Sheriff Tiraspol in the Champions League, it appears that there is little that Brozovic cannot do.

Meanwhile, Brozovic’s fellow midfielder Calhanoglu was if anything even better on the night, assisting the first and third goals from an inch-perfect through-ball and a precise corner respectively.

The 28-year-old put in one of his most all-around accomplished displays in a Nerazzurri shirt to show just how important he’s become to this team since joining from AC Milan last summer.
