Inter captain Samir Handanovic is set to extend his contract with the club past the end of the current season.

This according to SportItalia transfer market expert Alfredo Pedulla, who reported to Gazzetta.it, as reported by FCInter1908, that the Slovenian will remain at the club to hold down the goalkeeping position alongside Andre Onana.

Handanovic’s current contract with the Nerazzurri is set to run out at the end of June, and as of yet the 37-year-old has not extended his deal with the club.

Onana will sign from Ajax on a free transfer during the summer transfer window, though the current captain could still stay on to compete for the starting position with Onana while the Cameroonian settles in.

According to Pedulla, this looks to be what will happen, with the Slovenian ready to renew his contract so that he can remain at the club alongside the newly-arriving Onana.

“Inter will have Onana freshly signed, alongside Handanovic who is set for an extension,” he said of the Nerazzurri’s goalkeeping situation.
