Inter are annoyed with what they see as a double standard after Bologna defender Gary Medel had his suspension reduced from one match to two for a similar offense to that which saw Alessandro Bastoni suspended for two matches.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that the Nerazzurri are not happy with the decision to accept Bologna’s appeal to have Medel’s ban reduced.

Medel had been sent off late in the Rossoblu’s 1-1 draw with Juventus after excessive protestations to match official Jean Luca Sacchi,

In addition to the usual one-match ban, a further match was added to the 34-year-old’s suspension for disrespectful conduct towards the referee, meaning that he was set to miss out on this evening’s clash with Inter.

However, the Rossoblu appealed to have the suspension reduced, and their appeal was accepted on the basis that the board felt there were mitigating circumstances in the incident which saw the defender sent off.

Inter have noted a parallel to an incident in which their own defender Alessandro Bastoni received a two-match ban for harsh words to a referee in the aftermath of their derby loss to AC Milan in February.

The Nerazzurri also appealed to have Bastoni’s suspension reduced from two matches to one, but in this case the board found no mitigating circumstances to justify reducing the appeal.

The club are annoyed with the situation as they see there being an inconsistency to how their player was treated compared to a player from another team.
