Former Inter goalkeeper Luca Castellazzi feels that it is important not to blow the error made by Andrei Radu to allow a winning goal to Bologna yesterday out of proportion.

Speaking to Italian news outlet Gazzetta.it, via FCInterNews, Castellazzi gave the view that the error should not be something that is dwelled on too much, and also suggested that Samir Handanovic should still have an important role in the team next season.

Radu made his first start of the season in Serie A yesterday, and it could not have gone much worse for him as the Romanian made a costly error late on which saw Bologna score their winning goal in a 2-1 victory.

The situation was made all the more difficult by the fact that the result saw the Nerazzurri hand the advantage to city rivals AC Milan in the title race.

However, Castellazzi feels that ultimately it should be put into perspective, stating that “I wouldn’t make a big deal out of it, in the sense that Radu’s error remains a simple technical error that can happen to anyone.”

“I don’t think the directors or the coach should change their assessments of Radu based on yesterday’s mistake,” he continued, “it would be absurd.”

“It’s logical that now everyone is pointing their finger at him, but Radu must react well,” he added, “it’s a matter of mentality and character.”

“Beyond that, saying that Inter could lose the Scudetto due to Radu’s error is excessive and incorrect, it’s nonsense,” he went on.

“The Scudetto is won over 38 matches,” he said, “Inter have also dropped points on other occasions.”

“Putting such responsibility on Radu is an oversimplification,” he argued. “Inter were already in trouble against Bologna before the error, because they couldn’t find the key to unlock the match.”

“That moment was the definitive blow, but Inter could have secured the victory earlier,” he said.

Moving on to the arrival of Andre Onana to succeed Samir Handanovic in the long term, Castellazzi said that “The Cameroonian is a modern goalkeeper, he knows how to play well including with his feet and play a role in buildup.”

“He also has great athleticism and can certainly succeed,” he argued. “But it is important to understand to still have a place for Handanovic.”

“It is not for me to say, but Handanovic is also a an important figure in the locker room,” he argued, “he is a leader, his presence is important.”

“One can to be a key player even by playing just fifteen games a year,” he said. “The ideal would be a gradual integration of Onana, Handanovic I think should still have a key role next season.”
