Inter’s 2-1 loss against Bologna in Serie A yesterday evening was a self-inflicted blow which gives city rivals AC Milan a margin for error which they will not have expected in the Serie A title race.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who note that now the Rossoneri can afford to drop points and still be mathematically guaranteed of winning the Scudetto.

Inter started their match against the Rossoblu two points behind the Rossoneri, and this is how they finished it, but now no longer having a game in hand.

The Rossoneri’s head-to-head advantage over the Nerazzurri means that now they can even afford to let this two-point advantage slip and still finish top of the table if they are level on points at the end of the season.

There is still a lot of football to be played over the remaining four matches of the season, but Milan could feel emboldened by the fact that they are not obliged to win all of their games to be certain of finishing as champions.
