Italian journalist Mario Sconcerti feels that Inter’s nerves let them down in yesterday evening’s 2-1 Serie A loss to Bologna long before goalkeeper Andrei Radu’s late howler.

Writing in his column in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Corriere della Sera, Sconcerti suggests that the Nerazzurri felt the pressure of the match and that this was behind the damaging result.

Inter had a golden opportunity to go top of the table and really take their place in the driver’s seat of the Serie A title race had they taken three points from their game in hand against Bologna.

An early goal from Ivan Perisic suggested that the Nerazzurri were on track to make good on this opportunity, but the midfield and attack looked a bit too rushed to break down a gritty Rossoblu team despite having the lion’s share of possession.

A late error by Radu was the moment that will be remembered from the match and which ensured that the team left the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara empty-handed, but for Sconcerti the signs were there all match.

“It was an incomprehensible match for Inter in Bologna,” he writes, “The moment that proved to be decisive, Radu’s error, is not as infrequent than it may appear, Buffon did the same thing last Monday in Parma.”

“But it remains very serious,” he clarifies, “and it is the key symptom of an imbalance, of a feeling tension of tension throughout the team.”

“Radu did his best, but everyone was nervy,” he continues. “The impression is that the management of the match was not quite right.

He adds that “There were doubts that a great team in the final sprint must not have. Inzaghi asked for calm for every minute of the match, but in looking for it the team were submissive, waiting for something to change the game.”

“This wasn’t how Inter have played in the league,” he adds, ” not even in their period of bad form. It was an Inter without a soul, useless, disjointed, pensive, undone by their own expectation.”
