Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi tried to change the game in his team’s favour by switching formations in the second half of yesterday’s 2-1 Serie A loss to Bologna, but it had little effect.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who question the idea of going to a 3-4-1-2 system with Alexis Sanchez playing behind the strikers was the right move to break down a resolute Rossoblu team.

Inter started the match with their usual 3-5-2 system and began positively, scoring very early on through Ivan Perisic before creating more decent opportunities to score.

However, especially after the equalizer from Marko Arnautovic the Rossoblu got much more of a foothold in the match and the Nerazzurri’s long spells of possession began to look less and less threatening.

Inzaghi reacted during the second half by replacing midfielder Nicolo Barella with Sanchez, in the hopes that the Chilean’s attacking invention in front of the Rossoblu defense could unlock the match.

The coach had used the same system change in the team’ 2-0 loss to Sassuolo in February, where it had not had the desired effect.

Once again, despite a few bright moments, Sanchez’s inclusion didn’t do a great deal to make the Nerazzurri look likelier to find the back of the net, as they continued to struggle.
