Former Inter goalkeeper Silvano Martina has said that Ionut Radu’s mistake against Bologna was Inter’s fault for not using him enough, according to a report in the Italian print media today.
Speaking during an interview with Tuttosport, Silvano Martina explained that Samir Handanovic cannot play all 50 games in a season so if the backup keeper has no game time, they will struggle when they are suddenly needed.
“What happened is the fault of Inter, because Handanovic cannot play 50 games a season. A goalkeeper is like any other player, he has moments where he is at 60%: there the coach and the club must impose themselves to make him rest.
“If the backup never plays it is difficult to then be ready. It also happened with Padelli who is a good goalkeeper like Radu is.”
Ionut Radu had only played one game for Inter all season and that was in the Coppa Italia against Empoli. That means that when he had to fill in for Samir Handanovic against Bologna on Wednesday, he was very short of match sharpness.
He let a pass from Ivan Perisic go underneath his foot after a poor touch and Nicola Sansone was on hand to poke the ball home and make it 2-1to Bologna.
The goal could prove fatal to Inter’s title hopes this season.
