Former Inter defender Francesco Colonnese feels that Inter must begin to get fired up in their remaining matches as they try to come back in the Serie A title race.

Speaking to Italian news outlet FCInter1908, Colonnese view that the Nerazzurri can still win the title, but that it will take them regaining some intensity.

Inter suffered a damaging blow to their Scudetto hopes in the form of their 2-1 Serie A loss at the hands of Bologna on Wednesday evening.

Now, the Nerazurri are counting on the possibility that city rivals AC Milan will drop at least three points over the remaining matches to have even a chance at winning the Serie A title.

Ultimately, the Nerazzurri cannot dwell on the Rossoneri’s matches which are out of their control, but for their own remaining games will have to approach them at their best.

He called Wednesday’s match “Inexplicable. Football is cruel in some respects. After 25  minutes, no one would have ever thought that it would end like that.”

“An episode like this happens once every twenty years,” he went on. “Since I’ve been following Inter, something like this has never happened. But it happened.”

“The mentality must be that of a pissed-off team,” he said of what the team need to do now, “attentive, but convinced that they can play their cards.”

“Anything can still happen, they just have to win all their matches,” Colonnese said. “It’s not easy to see ourselves now second in the standings after giving it up, but there are no alternatives and there’s no time to do anything else.”

“Now is the time to show that we’re a strong team and not to break apart, but to stick together,” he added.

“I’m disappointed too,” he went on, “yesterday’s defeat was the most difficult moment of the season along with the defeat in the derby and Milan’s victory against Lazio.”

“The odds of winning now are certainly lower, but Inter’s character has to come out now,” he argued. “We must react strong, courageous. From Sunday we must show what we can do.”
