Inter legend Beppe Bergomi has played down the wider issues around Ionut Radu’s mistake against Bologna and said it was just a simple error, according to a report in the Italian broadcast media.

Speaking whilst on Sky Sport, via FCInternews, Beppe Bergomi explained that people can talk about playing out from the back or Stefan de Vrij’s positioning but ultimately it was just a mistake from the goalkeeper.

“There are mistakes and mistakes, there is an individual error that normally a goalkeeper doesn’t make, usually they happen more often when you want to set up and maybe start a restart. These are mistakes that are regrettable. De Vrij’s indecision? The Dutchman lets it slide because the goalkeeper is better placed, then he misses the ball. Sorry, but it’s a mistake.”

The mistake by the Romanian goalkeeper means that Inter lost the game 2-1 at Bologna and are now two points behind AC Milan having played the same number of games.

AC Milan’s last match was a 2-1 win over Lazio where Sandro Tonali got a stoppage-time winner. Beppe Bergomi feels that that goal from the former Brescia man took something away from Inter.

“Milan, even after a defeat or a negative performance, has always reacted very well, while both Inter and Napoli have had negative signals from that point of view. No one can take away from my head that Tonali’s goal against Lazio in the 92nd minute took something away from Inter.

“Against Bologna they broke the deadlock, then after the 1-1 draw they no longer had the confidence to play a certain type of match. It seemed to go back to before Juve, when it had difficulty attacking a lined up defence.

“We always remember that Inter has certain players, if they find closed teams, apart from Perisic, they don’t have other players good in one on one. That’s why it struggles a bit more.”

Inter’s next match is away to Udinese which is tougher than expected because they are in an excellent run of form.
