Former Inter goalkeeper Marco Ballotta has blamed the insistence on playing out from the back for Andrei Radu’s mistake against Bologna on Wednesday night, according to a report in the Italian broadcast media.

Speaking during an interview with TMW Radio, via FCInternews, Marco Ballotta suggested that goalkeeping errors with their feet are getting more popular because they are being asked to play out from the back rather than just stop the opposition from scoring.

“They all happened in one week, so many had never been seen so close together. Maybe playing from the back so insistently is too much. Maybe we shouldn’t be so obsessed with starting from the back.

“But trivial mistakes can happen. Of course, if the goalkeeper makes a mistake, it’s immediately noticeable, especially if it also leads to a goal.”

He added that during his playing days he enjoyed having his abilities with his feet tested but now the game has gone too far and a middle ground needs to be found.

“I liked being called into action with this type of play, but now it’s going too far, we need to find a middle ground.”

Marco Ballotta then suggested that if Inter have not lost the title with the Bologna loss, they nearly did. He also said that AC Milan may have a tough time against Fiorentina as La Viola have a point to prove.

“If they didn’t lose the Scudetto with Bologna, they nearly did. Now there is Fiorentina’s match against Milan and the Rossoneri could risk something. I think the Tuscans want to redeem themselves after their recent defeats, and Pioli’s team could be in a tricky situation.”
