Inter wingback Matteo Darmian feels that the team showed their collective strength to beat Udinese in Serie A earlier this evening.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN, the 32-year-old emphasized that the team looked more unified than ever to see off a tough Bianconeri side and take three points to put the pressure on AC Milan.
Inter suffered a major setback in the form of their 2-1 loss to Bologna during the week, and winning was virtually the only option as they got right back in action against Udinese.
The team got back to winning ways and they had to show both their technical quality and their organization and grit to do so.
Two first-half goals were made nervier by a second-half strike in response by the Bianconeri, but in the end the Nerazzurri saw out the result and Darmian is happy with how they put Wednesday’s loss behind them.
“We knew that after Bologna misstep taking the three points to respond to Milan was very important,” he said.
“We wanted it and we succeeded,” he added. “We had an excellent game, we suffered when we had to but we were lucid. We took three very important points and now we have to win all three of our last matches.”
On having to see out the match after the Bianconeri’s goal he said that “Maybe we should have managed the situation better, Udinese tried to equalize, but we did well. The group is united and we showed it.”
On how the team reacted to the loss against Bologna, Darmian said that “There was little to talk about, we knew how important it was to win today after AC Milan’s victory and our slip-up on Wednesday.”
“We always knew we had to stay focused and do our bit,” he added. “We have to win the last four games, we’ve won this one and we’re still right in it.”
“Now we keep going like this, trying to win the other three and hoping for a slip-up from our rivals,” he added.
“We must not look at Milan, on Friday we fight against Empoli,” he said. “No match will be easy, this season has shown that.”
“We have to play a good match to take three points and then concentrate on the final of the Coppa Italia,” he said, “another important match to win a trophy. We have confidence for the finale of the season.”
