Inter’s option to unilaterally extend the contract of defender Andrea Ranocchia for another season expired yesterday, but he could still remain at the club past the end of the summer.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, who report that the Nerazzurri could still offer the 34-year-old a new deal but no longer have the option to extend his current one.

Ranocchia extended his stay at the Nerazzurri last summer with a one-year contract extension, which had included the option on the part of the club to extend until the end of June 2023.

Since the club did not exercise this clause, it expired yesterday at the end of April and so the Nerazzurri will have to sit down with Ranocchia to work out a new deal should they wish to keep him on.

This cannot be ruled out, however, as a final decision has not yet been made about Ranocchia’s future and he could still be offered a new deal.
