Inter midfielder Nicolo Barella has suffered a serious bruise to his right knee during the Nerazzurri’s Serie A match against Udinese.
This according to Italian journalist Marco Barzaghi, who reported in a tweet that this was the reason for the 25-year-old having to come off during the second half of the match.
Barella went down with some pain late in the second half of the match in Friuli, a 2-1 win for the Nerazzurri, and when he got back up his right knee was visibly swollen.
The team’s medical staff looked at him and determined that he would need to leave the pitch, at which point he was substituted off for Matias Vecino in midfield.
It remains to be seen how serious the issue is and whether the midfielder will recover in time to not miss any matches or whether he will be ruled out, but he was able to walk off the pitch without assistance.
Barzaghi tweeted, “Severe bruising in the right knee for Barella.”
