Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp feels that his team played well in their 2-0 win over Inter in the first leg of their Champions League round of sixteen tie in February.

Speaking in a press conference ahead of the Reds’ second leg clash with Villarreal, as reported by FCInterNews, Klopp expressed his confidence in his team partly on the basis of how they performed against the Nerazzurri.

Inter managed to get a win over the Reds in the second leg of their round of sixteen, prevailing 1-0 at Anfield in the second leg, but Klopp’s team had already taken control of the tie with a 2-0 win in the first leg.

Both sides had enjoyed positive spells in the match at the San Siro, but it was the Premier League team who proved to be more clinical with the chances that fell to them, scoring twice from set pieces.

Considering that the Reds won the competition in 2019 and are among the favourites this season, Inter’s performance through the tie was seen as highly encouraging.

“We’ve always had good away performances,” he said. “We were excellent against Atletico Madrid, and Porto. And then against Inter as well.”
