Former Inter, Lazio, and Atletico Madrid striker Christian Vieri feels that a second place finish in Serie A would not be a failure for the Nerazzurri’s season.

Speaking on his Twitch channel, as reported by FCInter1908, Vieri gave the view that the Nerazzurri are not in the same position as Juventus who have now gone two seasons without challenging for the Scudetto.

Inter were not widely predicted to be Scudetto favourites during the summer, as the losses of several key players as well as coach Antonio Conte had left them scrambling to get back to the same level as last season.

However, the transition under Simone Inzaghi took place quicker than many expected, allowing the Nerazzurri to challenge for the Serie A title for a second successive season, though they are trailing AC Milan.

Vieri feels that on balance even a second place finish would not be a bad outcome for this Inter team.

“For me it wouldn’t be an Inter failure because Milan are proving to be at the same level as Inter,” he said. “If after 35 games, Milan are top, it means that they are very strong.”

“Juve finishing fourth is a failure,” he added, “they don’t get two passes in a row. If Inter finish second, it’s not a failure for me.”
