Italian journalist Riccardo Gentile feels that Cagliari will be a difficult matchup for Inter as they will have the motivation of needing points to ensure their Serie A survival.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, Gentile emphasized that even though the Nerazzurri’s quality is much greater than the Sardinians’ on paper, they will come up against a tough and battling opposition.

The Nerazzurri have only teams in the bottom half of the Serie A table left in their fixture list, though they will know well enough not to treat any of these as straightforward matches.

Empoli and Sampdoria are all but out of the relegation fight, but the recent form of Salernitana and Genoa has dragged Cagliari right back into it.

Accordingly, Inter will know that the Rossoblu will have no lack of motivation given that every point they can collect will be precious for the rest of their season.

“Verona and Cagliari are tough opponents because the table can push teams to play beyond themselves,” Gentile said. “There’s a big gap between Inter and Cagliari, but it won’t be easy for them.”
