Legendary former Inter defender Marco Materazzi believes that Inter can still win the Serie A title but that they are obliged to win all three of their remaining matches.

Speaking in a YouTube Q&A, as reported by FCInter1908, Materazzi gave the view that the Nerazzurri can hope to catch up to AC Milan by capitalizing on any stumbles that may come from their city rivals.

With three matches to go Inter are two points behind the Rossoneri, with the latter having the key advantage of the head-to-head, which means that they can afford to draw one of their remaining matches and still be guaranteed the title.

However, none of the matches that either teams have to come can be expected to be straightforward, and the Nerazzurri will have to have faith that an opening will arrive for them if they do their bit.

Milan’s three matches left against Hellas Verona, Atalanta, and Sassuolo will be full of potential pitfalls, and the Nerazzurri will feel that they must push their rivals all the way at the very least.

“We have to believe in it until the end,” Materazzi said. “Inter must win all three of their remaining matches, if the other teams make a mistake we will be champions, otherwise we go again.”

“They will have possibilities of dropping points,” he said of the Rossoneri, “but so will Inter. I wouldn’t want to relive this tension of trying to catch up from behind.”
