Inter midfielder Nicolo Barella is fully fit, but could be rested for Friday’s Serie A clash with Empoli nevertheless.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who report that the 25-year-old could drop out of the starting eleven to face the Tuscans if coach Simone Inzaghi decides he needs the rest.

Barella sustained a bad bruise that forced him to come off the pitch during the second half of Inter’s Serie A win over Udinese on Sunday, but it was nothing more than that and he has quickly recovered from the problem.

Accordingly, the midfielder will be available for selection when the Nerazzurri host newly-promoted Empoli on Friday evening.

With more important matches to come including next Wednesday’s Coppa Italia final against Juventus, however, the coach could decide that it is not worth the risk to Barella’s fitness to put him right back into the team on Friday.
