Legendary former AC Milan midfielder Demetrio Albertini feels that the Rossoneri’s two point gap over Inter is a substantial advantage with three matches left to play in the season.

Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Corriere della Sera, Albertini gave the view that the significance of the advantage should not be underestimated.

Inter have two points to catch up on their city rivals in order to be level on points, but even this would not be enough to win the title as the Rossoneri’s head-to-head advantage would mean that they would finish champions in such a scenario.

Accordingly, the Nerazzurri will be hoping that Milan drop at least three points out of the nine left to play for in Serie A, whilst the Rossoneri will feel that they have some breathing room at the top.

In the end, there is little that can be ruled out in a season which has already been full of unexpected twists and turns, but for Albertini, there is no doubt that Milan have a big advantage.

“Two points isn’t a small advantage at this stage of the season,” he said. “I think Milan should build on the qualities that they’ve shown up to this point, above all their bravado.”

Asked who he would like to see be the decisive player in the Scudetto race, Albertini said “I hope it’s Ibrahimovic.”

The former midfielder also dismissed suggestions that the Rossoneri’s more difficult fixture list on paper could become a factor in the race.

“All of the remaining matches will be tough for both teams,” he predicted. “I’d like to remind everyone that football is, among team sports, the one that is least subject to predictions and precedent.”
