Italian defender Danilo D’Ambrosio is more likely to take the place of Alessandro Bastoni against Empoli than Federico Dimarco, according to a report in the Italian print media.

As has been reported by the Roman daily newspaper Corriere dello Sport, Simone Inzaghi will revert to his more experienced backup defender for the home game against Empoli on Friday evening.

Alessandro Bastoni has been suffering from an injury and sat out the last game against Udinese, a 2-1 win. He will be absent again and the coach must decide who will partner Milan Skriniar and Stefan de Vrij in defence.

Danilo D’Ambrosio appears most likely to get the nod. Denzel Dumfries and Hakan Calhanoglu are also expected to return to the starting lineup after missing out against Udinese.

In attack, Joaquin Correa was rested in the last game but could return to start alongside his compatriot Lautaro Martinez in the game at the San Siro.
