Former Inter midfielder Alessandro Bianchi has said that Inter have a serious lack of depth and that he would not sell Lautaro Martinez to make room for Paulo Dybala, according to a report in the Italian media.

Speaking during an interview with FCInter1908, Alessandro Bianchi explained that earlier in the season Inter struggled because they had no quality backups in midfield, not just in Marcelo Brozovic’s position.

“More than just a vice-Brozovic, Inter need a reserve for each midfielder in the squad. Around February-March, there was a sort of general tiredness, due to the fact that there were no spare parts.”

Inter are heavily linked with a move for Juventus forward Paulo Dybala on a free transfer but Alessandro Bianchi feels that selling Lautaro Martinez to make room for him would be a bad idea.

“Dybala doesn’t seem like he can make that much of a difference. I would take him, but I wouldn’t send anyone away for him. Just to be clear, if you have to give Lautaro away, I would be against it.”

On the Serie A title race, he feels that Inter have an advantage because they won it last season and have a winning mentality in place that AC Milan do not.

“Inter have an advantage, in my opinion, because they already won the Scudetto last year and the team has an already consolidated winning mentality. Milan, on the other hand, is a younger group. But be careful all the same.”

When asked if he was surprised by Inter’s decision to sign Andre Onana in January even though it could derail Samir Handanovic, Alessandro Bianchi said it is all about looking to the future.

“We only look to the future and the good of the team and the club comes first. Onana is, objectively, younger and has more years of his career ahead.”
