Inter coach Simone Inzaghi has said that Inter played very well apart from the first 25 minutes against Empoli on Friday night, according to a report in the Italian broadcast media.

Speaking during an interview with DAZN after the game, via FCInternews, the coach explained that his team got carried away early in the game but overall they put in a great performance.

“I congratulated my team because we played a great game apart from the first 20-25 minutes when there was too much enthusiasm. Empoli play very well, so we had to be more orderly without the ball.

“We got carried away and we paid a high price for it. Then we did very well, the team doesn’t want to give up. Now we need to recover our energy for Wednesday.”

The 4-2 victory means that Inter have gone top of the table at least until AC Milan play against Hellas Verona on Sunday evening. When asked if he has plans to watch the game, the coach said that the focus is on the Coppa Italia final.

“No, no. We have to prepare for the final, which is a very important objective for us.”

Inter have applied the pressure on AC Milan by beating Empoli and Simone Inzaghi feels that the win gives the whole team a lot of confidence.

“A huge confidence boost. There are three games to go, since August 20 this team has been going strong and spending a lot of energy. But we have remained lucid, attached. I look at my team. This comeback against a great opponent gives me great confidence.”

Inter have now won 22 points from losing positions in Serie A this season and Simone Inzaghi was more focused on the fact they should not have conceded two goals rather than the quality of the comeback.

“An experienced team like ours should not concede those two goals, but the feeling is that we wanted to score right away in front of this enthusiastic crowd. We didn’t keep our distance and we paid dearly for our mistakes”.

When asked what his thoughts were when Asllani scored the second goal of the game, the coach said he was annoyed at the fact Inter were aware of the danger.

“I thought that we had told ourselves for three days to be careful with this opponent. But I think 37 shots on goal says it all: we created, played, got goals, Vicario did a great job. We’ll show the boys that start because we didn’t keep our distance.”

The Coppa Italia final comes up on Wednesday evening against Juventus and  Simone Inzaghi knows his team will have to recover quickly.

“It will be an intense game, Empoli make you run a lot. We will have to be good at recovering, but I think that in this final it will be the desire to make the difference. I got good signals from everyone, I’m very satisfied.”
