Inter defender Stefan de Vrij lost his composure in key moments of yesterday’s Serie A clash with Empoli, leading to indecisive defending.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who criticized the Dutchman’s display and gave him just a 4.5/10 score in the player ratings for the match.

De Vrij looked a bit lost when Nerazzurri-owned striker Andrea Pinamonti gave Empoli a shock lead early on at the San Siro, whilst he also got bullied in an aerial battle with the striker as he assisted Kristjan Asllani for the Tuscans’ second.

The 30-year-old’s fellow defender Milan Skriniar did not fare much better, also making some positional errors in what wasn’t his best evening in a Nerazzurri shirt, and the Corriere awarded him just a 5/10 grade for his performance.

In the end, the early mistakes made by the defenders were more than made up for by an emphatic attacking display which saw the Nerazzurri come back and win 4-2, but the errors were there nevertheless.
