Former Juventus, Bologna, and Sunderland midfielder Emanuele Giaccherini believes that Inter have put the pressure on AC Milan to win their Serie A clash with Hellas Verona today.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN, the 36-year-old gave the view that the Nerazzurri’s win over Empoli on Friday evening has ramped up expectations for their city rivals.

This season’s Scudetto race has been full of twists and turns, and it looked as though another one could be on the way as Empoli raced to a shock 2-0 lead at the San Siro, potentially putting Inter all but out of the race.

Instead, however, the Nerazzurri were relentless in pushing for the comeback victory and in the end won 4-2 to go top of the table for the time being and put the pressure on the Rossoneri.

Giaccherini believes that Inter did what they had to do to keep the title race an open question.

“Inter went out on the pitch and did what they had to do,” he said, “win and put pressure on Milan.”

“Now the Rossoneri have their fate in their hands. The Nerazzurri sent their message against Empoli: ‘We’re here and if you want to win the title you have to earn it’ and now it’s on to the Rossoneri.”
