Former Inter striker Julio Cruz is hoping that his old team can earn an important piece of silverware by beating Juventus in the Coppa Italia final on Wednesday evening.

Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview published in today’s print edition, Cruz gave his memories of the 2006 final win as well as wishing luck to the Nerazzurri in this season’s edition of the final.

Inter are back in the final of the Coppa Italia for the first time since 2011, and they are back at the summit of a competition that produced many great memories for the team in the recent past.

The Nerazzurri will be hoping to set a major milestone on their journey by winning the competition, as they have done many times through their history.

Cruz looked back on the 2006 final, a 4-2 triumph over Roma in a two-legged tie, stating that “I remember that I scored in the first leg of the 2006 final, but the emotion that I felt in the return, in front of a packed San Siro, is indescribable.”

“Now I’m counting on this season’s Nerazzurri to raise the Coppa again,” he added, “that year, that trophy, led us to an awareness that we were a strong team and could win.”
