Legendary former Juventus midfielder Alessio Tacchinardi feels that it is odd that Inter struggled so much in matches where midfielder Marcelo Brozovic has not been available.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster TMW Radio, Tacchinardi gave the view that the Nerazzurri had more of a difficult time coping without the 29-year-old’s influence than he would have expected.

Brozovic has missed only four matches this season, but his absence was very much felt in all four of them.

In the Coppa Italia round of sixteen the Nerazzurri needed extra time to edge out a nervy 3-2 win over Empoli, whilst all three of the matches in which they have missed him through suspension or injury in the league have seen them drop points.

If Inter are to miss out on the Serie A title, the lack of a real backup to the Croat in their squad will be a big part of the reason why, and Tacchinardi has been surprised that it’s been so much of a problem for them.

“It’s been strange to me how in matches where Brozovic has been absent, Inter have been unable to cope without alternatives to him,” he said.
