Legendary former Inter defender Beppe Bergomi believes that the Nerazzurri cannot expect a straightforward match against Cagliari this weekend.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, Bergomi gave the view that the Rossoblu will be highly motivated by their difficult position in the relegation battle.

Cagliari are second from the bottom of the Serie A table and so on paper they should be one of the easier fixtures that the Nerazzurri will have this season, but they will be just as up for the match as the Nerazzurri are.

Inter travel to Sardinia knowing that only three points can suit them in the Serie A title race, but the Rossoblu are fighting for survival in Serie A.

Even though Cagliari’s form has been poor in recent weeks and has seen them slip behind Sardinia and Genoa in the table, a dramatic late draw against Salernitana mean that they still have plenty to fight for.

“Inzaghi focuses a lot on cup competitions,” he said. “The draw by Cagliari makes that game very difficult. And Inter go into it just three days after the Coppa Italia final.”

“We’ve seen that this year Inter have suffered mentally against tough opponents,” he continued. “But I must say that Inter reacted well against a difficult opponent against Udine. The team is doing well.”

Of Paulo Dybala, he said that “He wouldn’t play well with Lautaro. Dzeko is a good player, but Inter absolutely need a quick striker.”

“Do you know how many times Inter have taken the lead and have not used the spaces on the counter?” he posed.
