Ivan Perisic and Robin Gosens are set to continue competing for the starting spot on the left for Inter going into next season.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, who report that with Perisic expected to extent his contract, he and Gosens will both be serious options to start next season.

Gosens arrived from Atalanta during the January transfer window with the expectation that he would provide competition and a rotation option for Perisic at left-wingback.

So far, however, the German has not made a start, owing partially to injury but above all to the imperious form shown by Perisic.

The Croat’s form has been so outstanding that the Nerazzurri are now determined to extend his contract past the end of June, with a meeting set to take place immediately after the end of the current campaign to settle his future.

Part of the 33-year-old’s demands for a new deal would be that the project remain competitive and also that he be a central part of it, meaning that the competition between him and Gosens will not go away any time soon.
