Legendary former Juventus, Inter and Italy coach Marcello Lippi feels that this evening’s Coppa Italia final between the Nerazzurri and the Bianconeri is special because the teams rarely meet in the final.

Speaking to Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport in an interview published in today’s print edition, Lippi underlined why he thinks this evening’s match will be a special one and also predicted that the Nerazzurri can put in a top attacking display.

The Derby d’Italia is one of the showpiece occasions of Italian football, with the league meetings between Inter and Juventus always among the most high-profile matches in the Serie A calendar.

The teams have met in the knockout rounds of the Coppa Italia on a number of occasions over recent seasons, but have rarely faced each other in the final.

This time around, the Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri will face off in the final of the competition after having already faced each other three times in the season, including in the Supercoppa Italiana in January, and Lippi is anticipating a great clash.

“It’s one of the great classic matches of Italian football, a special match because it is a final,” he said.

He also gave his thoughts on the Nerazzurri’s form, stating that “Inter go into it competing on two fronts. They are in a difficult situation in the league, but in this final they are in good physical condition.”

Lippi added that “They can boast something that probably no other team has – four forwards like those Inzaghi has at his disposal, any of which can be chosen. Therefore, they still have what it takes to do the league and cup double.”
