Inter coach Simone Inzaghi is happy to have guided the team to an important trophy for their season in the form of the Coppa Italia with their 4-2 win over Juventus.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, the coach emphasized the significance of the victory for everyone involved with the team and for their season.

The Nerazzurri reached the final of the Coppa Italia by beating Empoli, Roma, and AC Milan, and needed a 4-2 extra time win over the Bianconeri to win the competition.

This was the first time that the club has lifted the trophy in eleven years, and came as a major vindication for everything that they have achieved so far this campaign.

There are still two more matches to be played in the Serie A title race, but for the time being the team are taking the time to celebrate a major victory which they have earned.

“I’m enormously pleased to share this trophy with my staff, who help me every day to prepare for three matches a week,” he said.

“We played a round of sixteen tie in the Champions League against Liverpool, we’re the only team to beat them in 2022.”

“We’ve dropped a few points in order to get the best out of those matches, but I have no regrets,” he added.

“They were good,” he said of Ivan Perisic and Federico Dimarco in particular in the Nerazzurr’s comeback, “and if we analyze the two goals we conceded they should have been avoided.”

“The first goal was deflected,” the coach said, “on the second we conceded a counter.”

“But it’s the fiftieth game of the season for us,” he stressed, “we’ve played nine in a month.”

“The group has responded well, the substitutes have given us so much,” he added. “Now it’s only right to enjoy this trophy with the fans.”
