Inter defender Matteo Darmian has stressed the fact that the Nerazzurri were desperate to win the Coppa Italia this season, according to a report in the Italian broadcast media last night.

Speaking after the 4-2 victory over Juventus to Sport Mediaset, via FCInternews, the Italian defender explained that the players really wanted another trophy this season and the Coppa Italia represented the best opportunity to deliver that for the fans.

“It was an important trophy for us, the fans and the club. We wanted another trophy this season and from the first minute we tried to put Juve in difficulty. We took the lead, but in two minutes they overturned the game. But we didn’t lose concentration and we overturned it again.”

It was pointed out to Matteo Darmian that Inter were the victims of a comeback in the second half but they did not let it affect them and they mounted a comeback of their own.

“Each match is unique. Tonight it was important to win and we succeeded, now we celebrate and then we dive back into the championship.”

Inter are two points behind AC Milan in the Serie A table heading into the final two games of the season. The Nerazzurri know that they need the Rossoneri to slip up if they are to stand a chance of winning a second consecutive Scudetto.

“You never know, in football nothing is taken for granted. We know we have to win both and that Milan have to make a mistake.”
