Inter legend Beppe Bergomi has said that Inter won the Coppa Italia final on merit against a good Juventus side, according to a report in the Italian broadcast media.

Speaking whilst on Sky Sport, via FCInter1908, Beppe Bergomi explained that Inter deserved to win the game regardless of refereeing decisions and said that the Nerazzurri have something more than Juventus at the moment.

“Inter won with merit against a good Juventus team. Right now Simone Inzaghi’s team has something more in their character, an aspect that usually belonged to the Bianconeri. They never give up in the middle of the field, it’s solid, with four goals in a final you can’t not give them credit.”

Speaking of the refereeing controversies, many people feel that Inter should not have been awarded a penalty for the foul on Lautaro Martinez towards the end of the regulation 90 on Wednesday evening at the Stadio Olimpico.

The Argentine forward was brought down in the box by a combination of Matthijs de Ligt and Leonardo Bonucci.

Beppe Bergomi does not think that referee Paolo Valeri made any errors with the big calls in the match.

“I agree with all the choices made on the pitch, from the one for Brozovic, who certainly did not have it in for the referee, to the penalties awarded: on the first, there was a bit of imprudence on the part of Bonucci and De Ligt, on the second there are no doubts.”

Inter won the game 4-2 with two goals from Ivan Perisic in extra time.
