Italian journalist Stefano De Grandis has said Simone Inzaghi deserves applause for this season and said Ivan Perisic is a superior player to many in the Inter squad, according to a report in the Italian broadcast media.

Speaking whilst on Sky Sport 24, via FCInter1908, Stefano De Grandis showed that he has been impressed by Simone Inzaghi this season given the players that were lost in the summer and the season that the Nerazzurri have had.

“I think Inzaghi has achieved his goals. He has done a commendable job, because he took an Inter team that many people thought was in disarray, who had to sell two pillars like Lukaku and Hakimi. He also lost Eriksen.

“Despite this, Inter in the first part of this season played better than last year, and this is something that was not so much considered. Perhaps, compared to Conte, the team lost out psychologically in difficult episodes. But, overall, in my opinion Inzaghi should be applauded.”

Inter won the Coppa Italia on Wednesday evening after beating Juventus 4-2 in extra time with goals from Ivan Perisic.

After the game, the Croatian showed some anger at having not been offered a new contract on his terms at Inter for next season.

Stefano De Grandis explained that he thinks Ivan Perisic is a superior player in the Inter squad and the club should’ve acted quicker to keep him.

“He is a superior player compared to everyone else at Inter. That’s why, in my opinion, Marotta had to move more promptly, also because, between Perisic and Gosens, Inzaghi made it clear that there is a very precise hierarchical scale.”

He also feels that a middle ground can be found in the negotiations: “In my opinion, the Croatian’s statements should be read in a less optimistic way than one might think: Inter are offering him €4.5 million per year, he would like €6.5 million. Maybe he wanted to say: ‘I’m leaving, but not because of me’.”
