Former Lazio, Sampdoria, and England head coach Sven Goran Eriksson is hoping that his former player Simone Inzaghi can win the Scudetto this season.

Speaking to Genoa-based newspaper Il Secolo XIX in an interview published in today’s print edition, Eriksson expressed the hope that Inzaghi can defy the odds and overtake the Rossoneri over the remaining two matchdays.

Inter need for the Rossoneri to slip up in at least one of their remaining matches to have a chance of winning the Serie A title, but it’s far from out of reach for them.

If the Nerazzurri are to do it, Inzaghi will win his first Scudetto as a manager, a major accomplishment that would put the emphasis on a season where he has already proved himself to be one of Serie A’s top coaches.

This came after several seasons in which the 46-year-old earned a significant reputation as head coach of Lazio, where he had also played under the tutelage of Eriksson.

“I would like for Inter to win, for Simone, who I coached at Lazio,” the Swede said. “He did well in the Coppa Italia. Milan are the favourite for the title, but who knows.”
