Inter’s hopes to retain the Serie A title live to see another day after a 3-1 win away against Cagliari at the Sardegna Arena.
The Nerazzurri started the game well and they broke the deadlock in the 25th minute when Matteo Darmian headed home an Ivan Perisic cross.
Lautaro Martinez doubled Inter’s lead in the 51st minute before Charalampous Lykogiannis scored a screamer to cut the Nerazzurri’s lead in half, but Lautaro Martinez restored the two goal cushion with the final foal of the game.
Samir Handanovic – 5: Samir saved a brilliant low rocket in the first half and then had nothing to do. Used the ball well but couldn’t do anything to stop the goal.
Milan Skriniar – 6.5: Skriniar did not give any space or time on the ball to Joao Pedro. The only time he lost him, Joao slipped. Spent a lot of time in Cagliari’s half.
Stefan De Vrij – 6: Kept everything cool and calm most of the time. Cagliari did not create much trouble for long enough periods to put Stefan under pressure.
Alessandro Bastoni – 6: Did not look 100% fit but got the basics right. His positioning on and off the ball was brilliant throughout and he made Perisic look better.
Matteo Darmian – 7: Fantastic goal and superb performance overall. Matteo seems to enjoy scoring in these crunch games towards the end of the season. Clutch.
Nicolo Barella – 6: Played most of the game on energy saving mode. Never got the right ball to his feet in attack. Nobody deserves a beach holiday more. Tired.
Marcelo Brozovic – 6.5: Lost the plot for 10 mins in the first half but was on song for the other 80 mins. Absorbs pressure and incorrect passes from him are rare.
Hakan Calhanoglu – 6: Started the game on fire and was involved in everything. Unlucky to not get an assist, but his set pieces were perfect on a difficult away trip
Ivan Perisic – 7: Ivan continued his purple patch with a fantastic assist. Always looked dangerous with the ball. His defensive positioning was also perfect.
Lautaro Martinez – 7.5: Took 30 mins to get involved in the final third but once he switched on, he looked unstoppable. Two great finishes and deserved even more.
Edin Dzeko – 5: Continued to be ineffective in the final third. Always struggled with his second touch of the ball and the passing never really got going at all.
Roberto Gagliardini – 6: Came on to replace Barella and was missing in the attacking phase until that long ball towards him. Brilliant assist and good defensive work.
Denzel Dumfries – 6: Very unlucky to not have a goal to his name. No major mistakes and his movement was spot on even when the team was under pressure.
Danilo D’Ambrosio – 6: Danilo did his defensive duties very well. Could not move the ball very well in build-up play as Cagliari pressed the defenders in the second half.
Joaquin Correa – 5: An entire season has passed, and Correa is still not 100% fit. He played for 20 mins but looked all out of breath till the clocked ticked to 90 minutes.
Alexis Sanchez – N/A: Alexis struggled to get in the game as Inter barely attacked in his 5 mins or so. Ran a lot as is usual and hopefully he gets to start next week.
Simone Inzaghi – 6: A very difficult away trip against a team fighting to avoid the drop. The first half was perfect, but the tiredness was well managed by the substitutions.
Daniele Doveri – 6: Blew too many fouls for both teams and did not let the game flow. No major mistakes though. Very good use of VAR without losing control.
Inter – 6: The tiredness from the Coppa Italia win reared its ugly head in the 2nd half but the team kept their head. The Scudetto race goes till the end.
