Inter defender Alessandro Bastoni knows that the Nerazzurri will need a massive favour from Sassuolo next weekend but feels that anything is possible and that the team can still win the Serie A title.

Speaking to InterTV after the Nerazzurri’s 3-1 win over Cagliari yesterday evening, the 23-year-old stressed that the team still feel things are all to play for after they confirmed that the title race will go until the final day with their victory.

Both the Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri won their matches this weekend, meaning that things are still firmly in the latter’s hands but that the Nerazzurri can still hope.

Inter know that Milan must lose to Sassuolo on the final day in order to have hope of overtaking their city rivals at the top, but the Neroverdi have already beaten both Milan and Inter in the league as well as Juventus, and drawn with Roma and Napoli.

“We said to ourselves in the locker room that anyone who wants to win the Scudetto will have to sweat it right up until the end,” Bastoni said.

“We wanted to win for this reason, but not just that,” he added. “We wanted to do well today, now obviously it’s not just up to us.”

The defender lamented that “Unfortunately this year we left a lot of points behind, but we don’t have to look back.”

“We have to win our next match and see what happens,” he said.

Regarding his physical condition, Bastoni said that “I’m doing well, the calf problem seems to be gone.”

He concluded that “Clearly we wanted to win regardless of Milan’s result, it wasn’t easy against a team that are trying to save themselves from relegation. Now obviously we hope Sassuolo do us a favour on Sunday.”
