Matteo Darmian put in an accomplished display to dominate Inter’s right flank in yesterday’s 3-1 Serie A win over Cagliari, for which he has come in for praise in Italian media.

The 32-year-old was named as the Nerazzurri’s standout player after Lautaro Martinez in the player ratings for the match published in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport.

No player other than Martinez was ever going to be named as the Nerazzurri’s man of the match after the Argentine’s match-winning second-half brace, but there was plenty of quality on show elsewhere on the pitch.

Darmian showed his usual defensive solidity throughout his time on the pitch, but also showed how decisive he can be in the final third with a towering header to meet Ivan Perisic’s cross on the Nerazzurri’s opener.

The wingback received a 7/10 grade for his display, while Martinez got 8/10, and the likes of Milan Skriniar, Stefan de Vrij, Nicolo Barella, and Roberto Gagliardini were also commended with 6.5/10 scores.
