Legendary former Inter President Massimo Moratti believes that it’s still possible that AC Milan could slip up in the Serie A title race.

Speaking to Italian news outlet Notizie.com, Moratti gave the view that the final day of the season could well become the equivalent of the Nerazzurri’s infamous “May 5th” moment for the Rossoneri.

AC Milan are in a good position relative to Inter going into the final match of the season, as they only need a draw to mathematically guarantee themselves the Serie A title due to their head-to-head advantage over their rivals.

However, the Nerazzurri can still hope that Sassuolo will pull off a surprise victory to do them a big favour.

If the Rossoneri were to fall to defeat on the final day and the Nerazzurri were to take three points from their match with Sampdoria, Moratti would see it as a kind of dramatic final day collapse, like his Inter side suffered in the 2001-02 season.

Of Inter’s chances in the title race, he said that “I must say it’s tough, but in football anything is possible, miracles can always happen.”

“Things that have appeared obvious and already decided and then been overturned in an instant have already happened to us several times,” he pointed out, “even if there are more times in which things went well.”

“They are two great teams, but it can rain like it did in Perugia, or what happened to us that cursed May 5th, who knows if May 22nd might not become their May 5th.”
