Inter legend Beppe Bergomi has said that many did not even imagine Inter getting into the top four this season, according to a report in the Italian broadcast media.

Speaking during an interview with Sky Sport, via FCInternews, Beppe Bergomi explained that after the summer where many key components of the project were sold or left, many did not envisage Inter even getting into the top four.

“In the summer, after the farewell of Conte and three very important players, many were struggling to see Inter in the top four.”

He then made sure to say well done to Simone Inzaghi for guiding the squad through the campaign, even if they lost their wat in January and February.

“Well done Inzaghi: there was a period when Inter were unplayable for any opponent. Then the congested calendar and the desire to leave no stone unturned in every competition between January and February took away a lot of energy. A price the team paid.”

Inter are going into the final day of the Serie A season with a chance of winning the title for the second year in a row despite losing Antonio Conte as coach, Christian Eriksen and Achraf Hakimi from midfield and Romelu Lukaku in attack.

The Nerazzurri must beat Sampdoria and hope that AC Milan lose in Sassuolo.
