The return of Chelsea forward Romelu Lukaku to Inter is unlikely but it is not impossible if done as a loan, according to a report in the Italian media today.

As has been reported by Corriere della Sera today, the financial situation surrounding both Inter and Romelu Lukaku’s contract at Chelsea means that the chances of him returning to the Nerazzurri on a permanent deal are almost slim to nil.

He joined Chelsea for over €100 million in the summer last season but has since made it clear that he wishes he stayed at Inter and would like to return in the near future.

He now earns €12.5 million a season in the Premier League which is why he simply cannot return to Inter without reducing his wages by at least half. That is without even factoring in the transfer fee to Chelsea.

If a loan was proposed though with Chelsea acting generously and wishing to remove a member from their squad who does not want to be there, doors begin to open.
