Inter and AC Milan are set to fight it out to sign Empoli midfielder Kristjan Asllani in the summer, according to a report in the Italian print media today.

As has been reported by Tuttosport today, Inter are not the only team who wants to bring the young Albanian to their club this summer.

Inter view him as a backup to Marcelo Brozovic next season who can fill in when the Croatian needs to be rested or is injured. This was a major problem area for Simone Inzaghi this season.

AC Milan have slightly different plans for the player as they want to sign him and then loan him back to Empoli for another season as they will still be in Serie A and he can continue his development there.

Inter’s midfield could be in for a real overhaul beneath the three main starters as Matias Vecino, Arturo Vidal and Roberto Gagliardini could all be gone.
