Inter midfielder Matias Vecino is set to join Lazio on a two-year deal at the end of the current season.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that the 30-year-old will not extend his contract with the Nerazzurri past the end of the month and is close to a move to the Biancocelesti.

Vecino’s current contract is set to run out at the end of June, and he has long looked like departing at the end of his deal rather than agreeing an extension.

Lazio have been foremost among the Uruguayan’s suitors, with coach Maurizio Sarri a fan of the midfielder who he worked with in the past while in charge of Empoli.

Contacts between the capital club and the midfielder’s entourage have gone back as far as January for a summer switch, and they have an agreement in principle for a two-year deal worth a net of €2 million per season.
