Inter CEO Beppe Marotta: “Ivan Perisic Deserves New Contract, Paulo Dybala A Free Transfer Opportunity But No Contact Yet”

Inter CEO Beppe Marotta has issued an update on the contract situation of Ivan Perisic, who he feels deserves a contract extension and with whom he hopes the club will find an agreement.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, the Nerazzurri executive also acknowledged that signing Paulo Dybala is an opportunity that the club are interested in but denied that there is contact with the Argentine’s representatives.

Now that Inter’s season is over, the club is already starting to prepare for the next campaign, and thinking about what their squad will look like going into it.

Perisic’s situation is one of the big questions for the early days of the Nerazzurri’s summer, with the club set to sit down for the decisive round of talks to see whether the 33-year-old extends his contract past the end of next month soon.

“We’ll meet with Perisic, as I said before the match,” Marotta said. “If I look at it from the perspective of a fan we’d offer him a contract immediately, but if I look at it as a director we have to be a little more careful.”

“However, from either perspective there’s a desire to reach a positive outcome, because he deserves a contract extension, and I hope that conditions are right to reach an agreement in these negotiations that have been going on for months.”

The Nerazzurri have also been strongly linked with a move to sign Juventus forward Paulo Dybala on a free transfer, though Marotta was circumspect about their interest in the 28-year-old.

“He’s one of many players currently available on the transfer market, him being out of contract is certainly a good opportunity, but we haven’t made any contact,” the executive said.

“Certainly in the next few days I will analyze along with the coach, Ausilio, and Baccin the opportunities that are available on the market and then the areas where we need to improve,” he added. “We’ll evaluate everything.”
