Inter have made the signing of a player to back up Marcelo Brozovic in their squad next season a priority for the summer transfer window and are exploring a number of options.
This according to Italian news outlet Gazzetta.it, who report that Kristjan Asllani of Empoli is the primary candidate but that there are several possibilities lined up.
Asllani’s profile is very much admired by the Nerazzurri as a player capable of filling in for Brozovic when he is injured, suspended, or needs a rest, although Empoli would ask at least €15 million and AC Milan will rival them for his signature.
Meanwhile, Roma’s Henrikh Mkhitaryan is a target to bolster the midfield, and the Armenian’s versatility could mean that he provides backup across all of the midfield positions.
Like Asllani, PSG midfielder Leandro Paredes would cost around €15 million, but he would command very high wages, while it remains to be seen if Atletico Madrid would be willing to let the out-of-favour Rodrigo De Paul go on loan given that they paid €35 million just last summer.
Another Roma player in the form of Jordan Veretout it also on Inter’s list, whilst Gonzalo Villar is a third Giallorossi player (on loan at Getafe for the second half of last season) being considered, as is Lecce midfielder Morten Hjulmand.
As far as internal solutions go, Stefano Sensi is a possibility but is seen as too injury-prone, whilst Lucien Agoume is seen as too young and not purely a regista like Brozovic despite his obvious potential.
