Legendary former Inter President Massimo Moratti believes that this past season’s Serie A title race was one in which all the contenders failed to look fully convincing but that AC Milan deserved their victory in the end.

Speaking to Italian radio channel Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli yesterday afternoon, Moratti gave his thoughts on the title race that came to a dramatic conclusion over the weekend and saw his former side lose out to the Rossoneri by two points.

Inter, Milan, and also Napoli had all looked to be well-positioned to go on and win the Scudetto at times, with the Nerazzurri having had their fate in their hands as recently as last month, and having been in their strongest position at the end of December.

However, none of the trio really made the decisive break at the top, while the likes of Juventus and Atalanta and even Roma and Lazio had appeared to be within striking distance at points.

In the end it was the Rossoneri who won out, taking fifteen points from fifteen in their final stretch of games to hold onto their advantage in the decisive stages, something no team had done until that point.

Moratti stated that “From a certain point of view, all three teams that fought for it had the quality and strength to win the Scudetto, but everyone slipped up at times and had periods of bad form during the season.”

“It seemed like no one wanted to take it in the end, but Milan deserved it because they showed something more to win it,” he added.
