AS Roma midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan has been close to becoming an Inter player for almost a year, according to a report in the Italian print media today.

As has been reported by Corriere dello Sport today, the Armenian midfielder has chosen to join Inter and will sign a contract that runs for two years and will see him earn €3.5 million per season.

He actually could have become a Nerazzurri player a year ago as there were serious talks between him and the club. He was prepared to take advantage of a clause in his contract that would have allowed him to leave early.

It had to be exercised within a certain time parameter though and Inter were not in a financial position to sanction the move.

The Nerazzurri are now finally ready to sign the midfielder who despite having a small reputation for muscle injuries, made 44 out of a possible 55 appearances this season.
