Former Inter defender Daniele Adani believes that Inter can boast a stronger squad than city rivals AC Milan, but that they are not quite at a point where they can be considered part of Europe’s elite.

Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview published in today’s print edition, Adani gave the view that the Nerazzurri are a little closer to being a top eight team in Europe than the Rossoneri but that neither of the two are.

Milan and Inter proved to be the two strongest teams in Italian football this season, with the Rossoneri winning the Scudetto and the Nerazzurri finishing two points behind them and winning the Coppa Italia, whilst the likes of Napoli and Juventus followed just behind them.

Pointedly, no Italian clubs reached the quarter-final stage of the Champions League, with Inter and Juventus each going out at the round of sixteen phase.

Adani was asked if he thinks any teams in Serie A are close to the level of the teams at the top end of European football like Liverpool and Real Madrid, and he responded “Milan are on the right track, but they must strengthen the technical level of their team after winning the Scudetto.”

“Inter are superior in terms of their squad,” he added, ” but they’re not yet among the top eight in Europe.”
